But… unlike most other creatures, we humans not only eat to survive but also for emotional and social reasons. We have learned to use food as a response to uncomfortable feelings - to bury our emotions in food; we have habitualised our responses to food in social situations, ignoring the cues from our bodies. High stress levels and poor sleep can also cause weight gain and then difficulty in losing it.
Our approach is not a diet in the traditional sense - most of you are well informed in that regard.
Instead Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you to redefine your relationship with food and your body by working with the unconscious mind, where your food related beliefs, associations and patterns of behaviour are held. It can help you learn healthier ways to handle negative emotions and identify alternative coping strategies for stress.
We also work on any underlying psychological barriers such as emotional eating, sugar addiction, anxiety, stress, poor sleep or low moods.
In our Initial Consultation, I will give you an understanding of how our brains work and why we think and behave as we do. It’s incredibly powerful to have this understanding and enables you to make the first step towards change and help break the vicious cycle of negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
In subsequent sessions using a combination of "talking therapy" techniques and hypnosis, I will help you to move further out of this negative mind-set and bring back a more balanced perspective on life. This will also help you to feel more in control of your thoughts, feelings and actions.
We will focus on how you want to feel (and not how you don't) and identify the steps needed to get you there, all of which will be personal and appropriate to you.
The deep relaxation experienced during hypnosis aids and consolidates the process considerably. This highly relaxed state allows us to bypass the conscious, critical mind which means we can seed the subconscious mind with beneficial information like suggestions and positive affirmations – and they will stick (if you allow them to).
We use hypnosis not just to relax the mind and body – but also to reshape our unconscious thoughts and promote positive thinking. We can override those automatic thinking patterns that keep unwanted habits and thoughts in place with patterns that serve you in a positive and more helpful way.
