Modern life leaves many of us suffering from sleep deprivation and yet it's never been more important to sleep well.
If we don't get enough natural, restorative sleep, then it’s almost impossible to function at our best.
We need sleep to replenish ourselves physically, emotionally and mentally on a daily basis otherwise we start to feel the ill effects.
Not only that, but a lack of sleep can elevate stress hormones, affecting the mood centre of the brain and our immunity. Good sleep should restore and rejuvenate, releasing growth hormones which fix any damaged tissues and reducing our levels of stress hormones.
Sleep issues are often caused by the mind's inability to resolve worries and concerns - churning them over and over, becoming stuck and unable to move on. This can become a habit with poor sleep occurring because we expect it to and then all too easily becoming a vicious circle.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you to develop a good and natural sleep pattern - by getting a good night's sleep, falling back to sleep easily if you wake and helping you to start your days as you would wish - feeling refreshed, alert, focused and in tune with the world. The deep relaxation experienced in our sessions is also excellent preparation for setting up healthy sleep habits. We know that Hypnosis recreates the the REM state and so it follows that it also performs the same updating and maintenance tasks as REM (sorting through those worries and concerns). Simply being in REM/hypnosis is enough to let an overloaded brain catch up on its housekeeping and switch off unresolved emotional arousals. This is why people often say they feel better and are able to think more clearly after hypnosis.
In our Initial Consultation, I will give you an understanding of how our brains work and why we think and behave as we do. It’s incredibly powerful to have this understanding and enables you to make the first step towards change and help break the vicious cycle of any negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are stopping you from resolving any issues and problems.
When we step back from a negative situation and understand why and how our thoughts and feelings influence us, that awareness can be the first step into making positive choices and change.
In subsequent sessions using a combination of "talking therapy" techniques and hypnosis, I will help you to move further out of this negative mind-set and bring back a more balanced perspective on life, increasing your positivity and helping you feel calmer and more in control.
We will focus on how you want your life to be (and not how you don't) and identify the steps needed to get you there, all of which will be personal and appropriate to you.
The deep relaxation experienced during hypnosis aids and consolidates the process considerably. This highly relaxed state allows us to bypass the conscious, critical mind which means we can seed the subconscious mind with beneficial information like suggestions and positive affirmations – and they will stick (if you allow them to).
We use hypnosis not just to relax the mind and body – but also to reshape our unconscious thoughts and promote positive thinking. We can override those automatic thinking patterns that keep negative thoughts and behaviours alive (factors that can contribute to sleep problems) with patterns that serve you in a positive and more helpful way.
